Professional Makeup… Yes or No?

Many of my senior clients opt to go for professional hair and makeup, and some are totally unsure if it’s for them, so let’s unpack that. Some common questions I hear are:

What does that entail?

I work with professional hair and makeup artists who excel at making you feel your best in front of the lens. Typically you travel to their gorgeous studio for a fun glam session before your shoot and I will meet you at our location after that. Clients should arrive with clean and dry face and hair, and they will take it from there.

How much does it cost?

Total cost varies, depending on the artist, but the artists I work with most often charge $120 per face and $80 for hair, for a total cost of $200, plus gratuity. On site HMUA can be available on request, at an additional cost .

Will I still look like ME?

Of course! I had a client once describe it as feeling like, “Me, but an elevated version of me.” I thought that was a great way to describe it. Communication with your HMUA is key, and it’s really important for you to to tell anyone working on your face what you are comfortable with, listen to their suggestions, and come to agreement before they start. Are there lashes? Yes! They look gorgeous in photos, but they don’t need to be crazy. Camera make-up is different than prom makeup or day to day makeup. The point is for you to feel confident and camera-ready, not fake.

Do I have to do it?

You do not. I encourage it because it typically makes my clients feel comfortable, polished, and pampered during their session. However, I would never tell anyone they have to wear makeup to be beautiful. Absolutely not. If this is not your jam, we will talk about skin prep to avoid shine and make you glow!

Kind Words from a Senior Client about her experience with Jax Studio:

Jax and her team are incredible and made me feel like the best version of myself! Going in, they listened to my preferences and then worked their hair and makeup magic. The whole experience was so fun and I felt so special and pampered. The girls are so kind and lovely, so it makes it such an enjoyable experience. I left with beautiful hair and makeup that I could have never accomplished on myself, and I felt confident going into my shoot with Jen, knowing that I was displaying the best version of myself! ~ Caelyn Caivano, Class of 2019
